This 12 year old Australian boy saw words jump off the page before he received his Irlen lenses

A couple of people I referred for testing picked too dark a tint, so I asked Helen Irlen to comment:

Her reply:

“People do end up picking a tint which is too dark even though we keep trying to prevent this from happening. Most people with Irlen Syndrome associate bright with discomfort. We keep telling them during the tint session that with the right color things will still be bright BUT comfortable. Some individuals cannot trust this concept and end up with a dark tint. If they feel the tint is too dark, they can always send it back and have it modified to a lighter version. We also provide a “social” tint for those who need a dark tint. The social tint is not the optimal tint but is light enough so that people can see their eyes. Finally, people can get the tint in contact lenses.

I asked “If the client sends the lenses back when they are too dark what happens? Does the lab wash out some of the tint, or does the client have to send new lenses?”

Answer: “We realize that sometimes modifications are necessary and have made provision for this. A client needs to call his certified Irlen Clinic/diagnostician and let them know that the tint is too dark or not right. The lab is able to modify colors that are too light, too dark, or need to have another color added. The client will not need new lenses and the tint cost will be half the original tint cost.”

I recently attended a 90th Birthday party for my kindergarten teacher from 1947 in Dundee, Michigan, Virginia Mominee, and I told her I am reaching out on the Internet to families with learning disabled children. She replied “I am so glad you told me!” I was in her first class. She made us so comfortable.
